CITY LIVING, SUBURBAN FEELING
Bergen Beach
Bergen Beach is a small neighborhood in the Northeastern portion of the Borough of Brooklyn in New York City.
Bordered by the Jamaica Bay to the North and South sides,
the Belt Parkway to the East, and Avenue M to East 68 St.
to the West.
Bergen Beach is Bordered by the neighborhoods of Mill Basin,
and Georgetown.
Bergen Beach was an Island of the coast of Canarsie that was connected to the mainland in the early 1900's, today it is populated with single and two family homes and is considered by many as an upper class neighborhood.
It is a close nit community that has a suburb feel within a big City. It is surrounded by water and still has natural vegetation that can not be built on.
Avenue U is the main commercial strip of Bergen Beach. One of the largest and most popular Mall in Brooklyn is Kings Plaza, located on the corner of Ave U and Flatbush Ave.
There is also a Bergen Beach Youth Organization (also known as BBYO) that adds a small town atmosphere and keeps our children off the streets, and in a safe environment.
They provide sports activities such as Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball and Roller Hockey.
It is a place where both young and old can come to use the facilities. It was recently remodeled by the parks department, however the original club house was built by ordinary residents of Bergen Beach.
I started this web site as a way for those in the Bergen Beach Community to voice both concerns and pride of our community. Consider this our neighborhood's eyes and ears. We have to try to keep our streets safe and clean, so that we can maintain the high standards we have become accustomed to.
If there are any concerns that you would like to voice, here is a great place to start. Also, if there is anything you see around the neighborhood that concerns you, please feel free to forward any pictures to us, we will post them on the web and see that the appropriate action will be taken to rectify the situation.
We also want to share the joy of every day life as well. If you had a block party, or had a child win an award, or any happy events that you would like to share with the community, feel free to forward those pictures as well, so that we can post them also
I look forward to working with each of you, and working to make our community of Bergen Beach, one that we can continue to pride ourselves with.
